What Do the Mars 2020 Perseverance Rover and Nuraphone Have in Common?

Last week, the Mars 2020 mission was a massive success, with the Perseverance Rover landing to seek signs of ancient life and collect samples for a possible return to Earth.

The Perseverance Rover has already taken 5,000 new images of the planet, which you can see here. Still, there's something else that is special about this rover — its ability to capture sound. It does this with the same series of Knowles microphone (the EK) that is in your Nuraphone.

The same mic used to measure the Otoacoustic Emissions (OAEs) that generate your personalised hearing profile is now collecting sound from Mars.

This mission brings Earth the first-ever audio recordings from Mars, which is a considerable achievement. To find out more about how the mic will be used in the rover for the mission here.

If you have ever wondered how the Nuraphone can recognise the emissions coming from your ear, consider that this microphone is picking up even the smallest sounds, like a Martian breeze. That's just one of the fantastic pieces of tech that makes the Nuraphone one of a kind.
